Re: 2017 NCAA Tournament

I am in agreement with Poloeyes. Rational says the single elimination format "...puts water polo more in line with other sports." I would also ask, what sports? Football, Basketball, Baseball, Beach Volleyball? If you review the playoff format for the four I just listed, they are all diffe...

Re: 2017 NCAA Tournament

I also agree that with the talent pool of USA players increasing over time, coupled with the international talent, more teams are going to challenge UCLA, Stanford and USC in the years to come. With the success Cal has had this year to date, it should be easy to recruit this summer. If they happen t...

Re: 2017 season part 2

I think Cal will defeat Arizona. I just don't think ASU is a very strong #4 in the Nation based on some of their games this year. They lost to USC 11 to 4, lost to Michigan 7 to 6, and only beat Princeton 7 to 6. USC beat Princeton 12 to 3 and Michigan beat Princeton 14 to 6. I think ASU got to #4 s...

Re: 2017 Season

Even with some injuries, Cal will defeat Arizona this weekend. Arizona barely beat Princeton, 7-6. Tonight, USC was up 10 to 1 on Princeton at halftime.

Barbara Kalbus Invitational

I thought I would get the conversation started for this invitational since we could witness a lot of upsets. I think the top 10 will be as follows: UCLA, Stanford, CAL, USC, Michigan, Irvine, Arizona, Hawaii, UCSB and Pacific. UCLA will take down USC in the semis, and then finish strong with a nail ...

Re: 2017 Season

Well, if the Davis game was a fluke, the first test for Cal then will be against Michigan. Michigan held USC to 11 goals and UCLA to 12 goals at the UCSB tournament. Cal played Michigan in November, and won easily, but I suspect Michigan's defense will hold Cal to about 8 goals next weekend. Althoug...

Re: 2017 Season

Based on observations and score differentials to date, it seems Stanford, UCLA and USC will likely fight it out for the National Championship, but the 4th spot seems up for grabs between 5 teams: Cal, Michigan, Irvine, Arizona, and Hawaii. Four out of the five will be at the Stanford Invitational th...

Re: NCAA's

OCPoloDad: The site is just too small on the west coast for such an event that seems to be getting bigger and bigger each year. We were at Stanford last year and the stadium was packed for the championship game and very full for many of the games on the final day. A real missed opportunity to genera...

Re: 2016 Season

I thought Stanford would beat USC last weekend, but USC proved too strong. USC easily defeated Cal today. Looks like it is going to take a prefect game by someone to come close to defeating USC this year. Cal finishes 5th in their conference. Two really good games this weekend. Stanford at UCLA. I w...

Re: 2016 Season

UCLA's ten goal win (16 to 6) win yesterday over Arizona State was a real surprise. I would think a loss by 10 goals is really going to hurt Arizona's chances for an at large bid to the NCAA's. Arizona State will likely drop at least a few spots in the polls next week. Having watched the USC/Stanfor...

Re: 2016 Season

DinsdalePiranha: You really called the UCSB upset of Hawaii. I really thought UCSB would upset either Davis or Hawaii, but not both. Stanford took some significant revenge on Cal, and made a powerful statement that they are ready to take on USC and UCLA. Agree that Michigan is on a roll and will now...

Re: 2016 Season

Last weekend had two good overtime games (Cal at Arizona and Davis at Hawaii), but no major upsets in the Top 10. As Keepitpolo noted, some great games this coming weekend. I am thinking UCSB is going to upset either Davis or Hawaii in their home pool. Starbucks was right about the UCSB v UCI game l...

Re: 2016 Season

DinsdalePiranha: I was not at the game, but we heard about it from friends and I also read the recap. I think Davis took something like 30 shots and only made 5. Not taking anything away from Long Beach State for a well earned win, but clearly an off day for Davis. I was hoping LBS was going to give...

Re: 2016 Season

Sure has been quiet for the last few weeks. Tough loss for Michigan against Arizona a few weeks ago, followed by a very surprising loss by Davis last weekend to Long Beach State. This weekend has some good match-ups. #7Cal at #5Arizona. Cal played UCLA very tough last Friday in a low scoring game; s...
