So since this is the NCAA Final Four All Tournament list, when does the NCAA All American list usually arrive?

Not sure how you can put together an All-Tournament team and not include Andy Stevens from LMU on it. He was incredible the entire tournament in cage. If you polled the people sitting at the press table (which weren't a lot, but still), Stevens was probably considered by most to be the best goalie and one of the three or four best players.

Bram Arnold from Navy got slightly hosed as well. Navy doesn't beat LMU in the third place game if Arnold doesn't score those two clutch-goals in the fourth quarter.

I would certainly add Adam Haley from Cal.

I agree that Stevens and Bram were slighted. I find it interesting that although losing in the finals, USC has more players (6) on the all tournament team than Cal (5). The fact that only 2 Navy and 1 LMU player made the all tournament is a joke as well. If these teams were destroyed in the first round by 10+ goals I would understand it. Both Navy and LMU played well enough to get more players recognized for their universities. Stevens clearly outplayed Shilling who I think was the fourth best goalie at this final four. I am not sure what Buckner did to deserve 2nd team over Bram. Is he a better player? Yes. Did he play better than Bram in this tournament? No.

dont they use a formula like 4 from winning team in 1st team, 3 from 2nd place team in 1st team, etc... thats how it works in JO's.

There is no formula the team is voted on Friday night so the most important game doesn't matter. It is selected more on reputation than actual play hence Buckner who had an awful final game makes first team and Adam Haley who had a great final game gets nothing. Why bother naming a team?

Mark Sheredy blocked a penalty shot in the final game and played amazingly and his team won the turnament as a direct result of his play, so I do not see Andy Stevens getting first team over him no matter how you try to argue it.

on another note when do All-America teams get released?

I agree with that assesment. Stevens should not have got first team. But Shilling on second team over him?

Either the voting for the All-Tournament team should be done following the final game of the tournament or not at all. There are only four games played during the entire tournament and it is a joke if the teams are selected with 50% of the games remaining.

By the way.....who makes the selections? Is it the coaches? If so, perhaps it should be a neutral third party.

From what I was told, the coaches had to have their selections made no later than after the second game on Saturday.

Therefore, no matter how well a player that was not selected by the coaches on Saturday played, he was out of luck as far as the all-tourney team went if any coach didn't select him. I find the current selection method to be highly unfair and tantamount to making the selections a popularity contest or a vote as to how they played all season instead of the NCAA tourney.

Water-Polo-Fan,

I wrote an article about how many of the All Tournament Team's are selected so poorly that you may like to read:

Doc's got it exactly right. I stopped paying attention to water polo awards a long time ago - from age group national teams to all-tournament teams in every tournament. For all the reasons Doc lists in his article, I have never seen this process work well. For a while at the Junior Olympics, we used to write up lists of who we thought would be on the "All-American" list. We would pick before the tournament began. We usually got a large number of the kids right. Some of them played very well, of course, and deserved to make the list, but how the players played was poorly correlated with who made the list.

I've ignored these award lists for a long time now, but it would be nice to see those players who stepped up in big games rewarded.
