The first for 2009:
"SHP star chooses Stanford
Paul Rudolph, a rising senior at Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton, has been admitted to the Stanford class of 2013 and has verbally committed to play water polo for the Cardinal.
Rudolph, a three-time all-Central Coast Section selection, led the Gators to a West Catholic Athletic League and CCS championships last season. He was named CCS player of year and was a first-team All-American as a junior.
"Paul has a unique blend of strength and quickness, and I expect him to have an unforgettable senior season at Sacred Heart Prep," SHP coach Brian Kreutzkamp said. "I am extremely proud that he has taken the time to work hard in the pool and in the classroom to make his dream of attending Stanford University a reality."
Rudolph said he is honored to become a part of Stanford. "It has always been my goal to attend Stanford and play water polo for coach John Vargas," he said. "Stanford offers the very best academic and athletic environment in the nation, and I am looking forward to being a part of it."
2009 College Signings
Re: 2009 College Signings
You got a list of the top 2009 prospects?? This one commit isn't enough to carry a thread.
Re: 2009 College Signings
I thought I would start a thread because the early commits will be rolling in over the rest of the summer. There are lots of great prospects, such as Josh Samuels, Cruz Smithson, Jay Lovero, Alex Popof, Paul Pickell, Austin Trinkle, Michael Delaney, Nick Rascon, and Trey Davis, to name just a few.

Can you even apply at the present time for the class of 2013?

Yes, at least on the women's side, coaches can and do begin contacting their top recruits on July 1st after their junior year. I would assume the same for the men, but I don't know this for certain. By now, the top recruits have already heard from interested coaches, and for those who have come to a conclusion, they can "verbally commit." By July 1st, the coach has already fed their top recruits into the school's early-look process, and gotten thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback from the admissions office.

Re: 2009 College Signings
I suggest looking at these links regarding when you can and cannot do certain things before entering college. The rules are quite rigid as far as coaches making contact. A player can say what he wants. A coach has to live by certain rules. As far as making commitments to schools, it's the admission department that accepts players, not the coaches. A coach's comments/"commitment" outside of the time frames allowed does not guarantee anything. The "real pedal to the metal" comes whe it's time to sign the National Letter of Intent. In real life, I know of no coach who would say to a parent that their player is guaranteed anything...

National Letters of Intent: http://www.national-letter.org/faq
And yes, I do think that any discussion of a high school player in his/her junior year should be on the high school link.

Re: 2009 College Signings
Junior year is over for the students applying to college now. Many colleges having a form of rolling admissions schedule for athletes. They are admitted by the admissions office (not the coach) according to each school's particular schedule, even as early as July and August.
